Lamborghini Crash in Calgary Leads to Discovery of $1.5 Million in Cash

A high-speed Lamborghini crash on a major Calgary highway late Tuesday evening took an unexpected turn when emergency responders discovered over $1.5 million in cash concealed inside the vehicle. The yellow sports car, believed to be a Huracán model, collided with a median near Glenmore Trail SE, triggering a swift response from local authorities and paramedics.

According to Calgary Police Service (CPS), the driver and passenger suffered minor injuries and were treated on the scene. As officers conducted a routine investigation into the crash, they noted suspicious behavior from both occupants, prompting a more thorough examination of the vehicle’s interior and luggage compartment.

During the search, officers uncovered a suitcase wedged behind the seats containing neatly bundled stacks of Canadian and U.S. currency. Additional compartments in the trunk revealed more cash stored in vacuum-sealed bags. While the exact breakdown of denominations has not been released, the estimated total exceeded $1.5 million.

Sgt. Naomi Reid, spokesperson for CPS, confirmed that neither occupant provided documentation or plausible explanations for carrying such a large sum. “There was no declaration of the money, nor was there any evidence it was being transported through legal means,” Reid said during a press briefing Wednesday morning.

Authorities have since turned the case over to the RCMP's Integrated Proceeds of Crime Unit, which is now investigating potential links to money laundering, organized crime, or tax evasion. The vehicle has been impounded, and the cash was secured by the RCMP for further analysis and tracing.

Witnesses at the scene described the crash as “sudden and violent,” with several noting that the Lamborghini had been weaving through traffic minutes before losing control. Dashcam footage provided by nearby drivers may offer critical insight into the moments leading up to the collision.

At this stage, no charges have been laid, but police emphasized that the investigation remains active. The incident has sparked renewed calls from officials urging travelers to be transparent about the transport of large sums of money and to adhere to federal declaration laws to avoid legal entanglements.
